Adopt a Grandparent Butler University

Butler University Student Organization 805 Talisman Dr. , Terre Haute IN

To whom it may concern,

My name is Marriah McKillop, a sophomore student at Butler University studying Communication Sciences and Disorders. Before moving to the Indianapolis area, I was doing a lot of volunteer work at my local nursing homes. During this time, I found that I have a passion for bringing light into the lives of the elderly just by taking a fraction of my day to spend time with them. While at Butler, I really missed having the opportunity to volunteer in the nursing homes with the extra time I had.
With that being said, I am looking to develop a club at Butler called “adopt a grandparent”. I believe Butler has many caring and passionate students that would be more than happy to allot some time out of their week to be a part of this wonderful experience to grow close with an elderly resident. Although this idea is in the beginning stages, I believe this program would work best if the ‘adopt a grandparent students’ came once a week and played card games/did other activities with their assigned resident. Before taking this idea any further, I wanted to reach out and see if your facility would take interest in allowing BU students to ‘adopt a grandparent’. I know there are many different hoops volunteers have to go through in order to volunteer, but I know that many students would love having an opportunity like this to make a difference in the lives of your residents.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Marriah McKillop
