Multiple individuals were arrested on felony charges on Nov. 11 after graffiti stating “Free Palestine Sudan Congo Haiti Lebanon,” along with antisemitic symbols and glued posters were found in a courtyard on Nov. 8 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

“Earlier today, multiple individuals were arrested on felony charges in connection with the vandalism of buildings, structures and artwork across our campus overnight on Nov. 8,” a CWRU spokesperson said in a statement shared with the Cleveland Jewish News Nov. 12. “These individuals have been transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail, where they are afforded full legal rights, including access to counsel. As this is now a criminal investigation, the university is unable to provide further comment.”

In a video obtained by the CJN, workers can be seen cleaning red hand prints and glued posters off of windows and doors leading into a building on the campus, surrounded by tables with smeared red paint. The words “Free Palestine Sudan Congo Haiti Lebanon” are painted on a brick wall across from the tables.

According to a Nov. 8 statement from a CWRU spokesperson, the graffiti was found on multiple buildings on the university’s campus.

“Overnight, a group of individuals vandalized multiple buildings, structures and artwork on our campus with paint and glued posters, some of which included what the university considers antisemitic language and symbols,” the statement read. “Our facilities staff has been working since early this morning to clear the vandalism, repair the damage and restore our campus. We strongly condemn the actions of these individuals and are investigating the incidents.”

The statement adds that any individual found to have been involved in the incident will be subject to the university conduct process and criminal charges.

This is a developing story.
