ANN ARBOR, MI - A man was caught on surveillance video kicking the door and shouting obscenities outside a Jewish center near the University of Michigan, prompting a police investigation.

An unknown man was seen on surveillance footage around 1:42 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 kicking the front door of the Jewish Resource Center, 1335 Hill Street in Ann Arbor.

The man, wearing a blue sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, can be seen running up to the door before kicking it and running away, according to footage shared by the Ann Arbor Police Department.

As he was running up to the door, someone shouts, “Jake, stop.” Police believe this may be the suspect’s first name.

Someone can also be heard screaming “F--- Israel, F--- the Jewish people” as the man runs down the sidewalk.

There was no damage to the Jewish Resource Center, which hosts Shabbat meals and works as a community center for Jewish students. A spokesperson for the center did not respond to a request for comment.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6920, email tips@a2gov.org or submit an anonymous tip online.

Police have investigated several other incidents targeting Jewish students at the University of Michigan.

A 19-year-old man was assaulted around 1 a.m. Sept. 15, 2024, near Hill Street and S. Forest Avenue. A group of unknown men behind him asked if he was Jewish and assaulted him when he said yes, Ann Arbor police previously said.

They were also investigating a pair of assaults in the 1000 block of East University Avenue around the same time. A group of people in front of a home confronted the students, police said. The incidents happened outside a home where students from a Jewish fraternity live.
