Incident on Jewish Community Campus 2/26

Dear Jewish Community,

We wanted to make you aware of a situation that occurred on the Max & Mae Simon Jewish Community Campus today.

Around 2 p.m. today, two men were shot in the Jewish Community Center gymnasium following what police believe to be an isolated altercation during a pick-up basketball game. Police do not believe that this was a religiously motivated or hate crime.

The victims were both sent to St. Vincent Hospital and are in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene on foot, and as of right now is still at-large. Information about the suspect has not been released at this time.

The safety and security of the Jewish Community, campus, and places of worship is our top priority, and we are grateful for campus security and law enforcement's quick response. Police say there is no ongoing threat at the Jewish Community Center, on the Max & Mae Simon Jewish Community Campus or the surrounding area. The Jewish Community Center will be closed for the rest of the day and will reopen at 7 a.m. for normal business hours tomorrow.

If anyone has any information, we are asking you to call detectives at (317) 327-3475 or you can call Crimestoppers at (317) 262-TIPS to remain anonymous.

We will update you should more information become available.

Thank you,
