Butler Hillel Engages in Jewish Life

From sharing a delicious Welcome/Welcome Back barbecue together as the semester started and baking beautiful challot for the High Holidays, to patiently constructing their unwieldy but lovable sukkah in the middle of campus, Butler Hillel students have been engaged in Jewish life!

Butler Hillel has been so pleased to meet new students who have quickly found a place in Hillel, already weaving themselves into the fabric of our group. Students engaged in making colorful blankets for patients at Riley Hospital for Children while enjoying a Bagel Brunch.

Late September found some of the Hillel crew adding their voices to the Butler Peace Day event. Sign-up sheets for High Holiday services at all area synagogues were made available to students online and carpools transported students to and from services. Along with co-advisors Professor Hilene Flanzbaum and Nonie Vonnegut-Gabovitch, a group of 23 students enjoyed an erev Rosh Hashanah meal together prior to attending services.

The first day of Rosh Hashanah found students at the Broad Ripple canal engaged in the ritual of tashlich with Rabbi Aaron Spiegel and numerous ducks. The students enjoyed the company of a few alumni at their annual Homecoming Shabbat and looked forward to doing the same with their own families in for Parents Weekend.
In December will host its Second Annual All Hillel Chanukah Party. Be on the lookout for more pictures!
