The Circle: Jews, Germans, and Hoosiers in Conversation - are partnering with the Leo Baeck Institute, the Athenaeum Foundation, IUPUI’s Max Kade Center, and IU’s Borns Jewish Studies Program to present IU Professor Mark Roseman, who will present a lecture that explores the remarkable explosion of teaching and scholarship on the Holocaust in the United States over the last fifty years. In the 1970s it would have been simply unthinkable that the Holocaust could dwarf the Second World War as a topic of memory, pedagogy and research. Now in teaching students about the Holocaust we often have to remind them that a world war was taking place at the same time. The implications of this shift for understanding Germany, Europe and the World is also a topic of the lecture.
