Cantor Segal is delighted to be joining the IHC community, where her niece and nephew both become bat and bar mitzvah. She is a founding member of Kolot Chayeinu / Voices of Our Lives (www.kolotchayeinu.org), a Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, NY who shares a commitment to the search for meaningful expressions of Judaism in today's uncertain world. Cantor Segal was ordained in 2011 at the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York and writes "Ritual changes us, transforms us, accompanies us over the bridge from one state to the next." Cantor Segal has performed with a range of notable and innovative Jewish instrumentalists and singers including Marty Ehrlich, Mark Ribot, Alicia Jo Rabins, Roy Nathanson, Joey Weisenberg, and Alicia Svigals, and has performed with many cantors and choirs. She was a featured artist in Zero Church: the Prayer Project with Suzzy and Maggie Roche (of the Roches) presented at St. Ann’s Warehouse and is most recently featured on "Balm for Gilead", a new CD from singer/songwriter Leslie Nuchow. She is married to maggid/creative midrash writer Arthur Strimling. Cantor Segal looks forward to partnering with IHC Clergy to create a meaningful and transformative prayer space.
